Art at the edge
The Rooms Provincial Museum, Art Gallery and Archives, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

Large and small, our art galleries house a kaleidoscope of sensual artistry and distinctive culture. From the treed corners of Labrador, to the nooks and crannies of the west Coast, to the colourful St. John’s skyline. Our galleries are some of the most sought out places in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Uncover our past at the Coast of Bays Arts and Exploration Centre where artists depict their heritage and culture on canvas, wood, stone, and paper. View a beautiful mix of local art, attend a workshop, or hear a tale told by an expert storyteller at the Twine Loft Studio in Trinity Harbour. Discover art exhibits that reflect, interpret and preserve the cultural heritage of Canada at the Sir Wilfred Grenfell Art Gallery in Corner Brook.

Many of our galleries offer readings by local writers, workshops for adults and children, and special events in season and year-round. In Conche and Trinity, our Artist in Residence Programs allow you to see our local and visiting artists’ work.

Visit the largest and most diverse collection of our province’s visual art at The Rooms in St. John’s - a modern take on the traditional “fishing rooms” that houses the provincial art gallery, museum and archives. Walk through the concrete, glass and steel structure and gaze for hours at collections, exhibits, art, aboriginal sculptures, artifacts, archaeology, architecture, and archival records, as well as the best travelling exhibits the world has to offer.

You’ll find our galleries and art in the most unexpected places. Studios are tucked into the most remote and scenic areas and art is present wherever you go. You’ll see our art in restaurants, while purchasing theatre tickets, or simply wandering past a clothesline.
