Canada Select Accommodations Rating Program is a national rating program developed to provide you with a consistent standard of quality within each category of accommodation. Every accommodation in the program is given a star rating from one to five. Each accommodation category has a set of criteria, so that hotels are compared with hotels, for instance. The higher the star rating, the greater the range of facilities, guest amenities and services offered. The quality of service by an owner/operator is not factored into the rating. The accommodation categories are:
- Bed & Breakfast (Bed & breakfast, bed & breakfast inn, guest home)
- Cottage (Cottage, cabin, house, housekeeping unit, efficiency unit, condo style unit)
- Inn (Small inn, large inn)
- Hotel/Motel (Hotel, suites, motel)
- One Star
 - Clean and comfortable
- Two Stars
 and Three Stars  - Greater range of facilities or activities with various services and amenities.
- Four Stars
 and Five Stars  - Greatest range of services, amenities, activities or facilities.
